Administration, Laboratory & Safety Briefing for New and Active Students at CCB
On 24 November 2025, the Centre for Chemical Biology (CCB) conducted an Administration, Laboratory, and Safety Briefing for both new and active students. The session aimed to ensure that all students are well-informed about the centre’s administrative procedures, laboratory guidelines, and essential safety protocols before beginning or continuing their research activities.
The briefing began with key administrative matters, including facility access procedures, required documentation, and the proper channels for communication with CCB management and technical staff. Students were also introduced to the roles and responsibilities of the administrative, academic, and laboratory support teams to help streamline future processes and improve coordination.
During the laboratory component, students were guided through the rules and best practices for maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient research environment. This included the proper use of laboratory equipment, waste management procedures, booking systems, and the importance of maintaining accurate laboratory records. Several essential forms that students must complete were also highlighted to ensure smooth lab operations.
The safety segment emphasised strict adherence to CCB’s safety regulations in order to maintain a secure working environment for everyone. Topics covered included personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, emergency response procedures, chemical handling guidelines, biosafety practices, and incident reporting protocols. Students were reminded that full compliance with these safety standards is mandatory and crucial to preventing accidents and preserving laboratory integrity.
Overall, the briefing served as a comprehensive introduction to CCB’s operational, laboratory, and safety expectations. It successfully equipped students with the knowledge and awareness necessary to fulfil their administrative responsibilities and carry out their research activities safely and responsibly throughout their time at the centre.
