SDS-PAGE is a technique for detecting proteins and separating them by size. The information gained from an SDS-PAGE experiment can be very useful in many experiments that detect and investigate the characteristics of proteins. This short course aims to provide you with a basic knowledge of SDS-PAGE by walking you through examples of SDS-PAGE application in protein research.

The science of metagenomics, or culture-independent genomic analysis of the microbial DNA, makes it possible to study microbes in their natural environment. This course is tailored to provide learners with knowledge of metagenomics research including the approaches used, the sequencing technologies available and the processes involved.

Environmental microbiology is defined as the study of microbes within all habitats and their beneficial and detrimental impacts on human health and welfare. Environmental microbiology is also fundamental biology and an applied field in which we atempt to improve the environment and benefit society.

The Centre for Chemical Biology (CCB) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a leading multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to advancing knowledge at the interface of chemistry and biology. Since its establishment, CCB has served as a dynamic platform for cutting-edge research, collaboration, and innovation in molecular life sciences. The centre plays a pivotal role in strengthening Malaysia’s position in global biotechnology and biomedical research.
